Show off those shots! Making the most of your engagement pics.

The Engagement Session is about having a fun and enjoyable experience with your fiancé before your big day. Plus, it’s a great way for you and your photographer to get to know each other so that when it comes to your wedding day you will feel comfortable being photographed.

Many couples opt to use their engagement pics for pre-wedding and day-of décor—such as a guest sign in book, personalized favors, image-driven programs, photo fans and, of course, save the dates. You can even opt to customize buntings that greet guests at your cocktail hour!

If you’re looking for something more personal you may want to opt for a stunning canvas, photo wall or mini print board, creating a beautiful, visual piece that instantly tells your story to guests, friends and family.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare.

1) Bring props – you can be as creative as you like with this. For example, create a sign with your wedding date on it. Some couples even bring their pets or wear their favorite sporting team jersey.  { Check out my engagement gallery for some ideas that our clients have done in the past. }

2) Scheduling – plan a minimum of one hour for your Engagement Session. The best times to shoot outside is roughly 15-20 minutes before sunset and 15-20 minutes after sunset so its helpful to schedule engagement sessions with this in mind.  If you plan to change in and out of outfits allow for some extra time.

3) Location – you want to choose a location that is meaningful to you. If you don’t have a location in mind your wedding venue could be an option, then you can envision your wedding day as you go through the property.
