Ruth puts her reputation on the line, follows her mother-in-law’s advice and reaches out to a family redeemer, Boaz, and older man. Here is his response:
10 Then he said, “May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first by not going after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 ‘Now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you ask, for all my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence.
– Ruth 3:1-13
Ruth shows honor to Boaz by noticing him before the other younger men. Boaz honors her by not rejecting her or taking advantage of her. He respects her reputation and integrity and goes out of his way to maintain it. He hugs her, sends her on her way, and says he will take care of the matter.
Boaz’ response is similar to Jesus’ response to us as our Redeemer:
“Our Redeemer does not recoil in horror. He does not reject us. He looks at us, small and shivering, and gathers us close to him. He loves us.”
