Don’t you just love the innocence and simplicity of the California poppy? They are wonderfully simple, sweet… yet their color projects a playful boldness. They are a little bit of a contradiction, which is just so fun!
On our way home from shooting a Bay Area wedding, my friend Alyssa and I pulled over on the side of the road to catch some quick shots of these amazingly huge masses of poppies just spreading into the distance like a thick carpet. They looked like they almost reached the hills in the background. I have never seen anything quite like it. It was right in the middle of the day, when the sunlight is the harshest, but we still got some pretty incredible shots.
I snapped a few of Alyssa, because, well — she is adorable. So we made some fun memories together out of this moment that we would have completely missed if we had been in too big of a rush to get home.
